Talk 2 - Ruth Hallinan

Ruth Hallinan is the Assistant Manager of NIVAL based in NCAD.

National Irish Visual Arts Library (NIVAL) collects, stores and makes accessible for research an unparalleled collection of documentation about Irish art in all media. NIVAL began as a partnership project between the Arts Council of Ireland and the National College of Art & Design, Dublin. Since 1997, NIVAL has become the foremost centre for the documentation of contemporary art and design in Ireland, providing access to over 100 special collections and archives and facilitating more than 1,500 research queries each year.

NIVAL’s collection policy includes Irish visual art from the whole island as well as Irish art abroad and non-Irish artists working in Ireland. Information is acquired on artists, designers, galleries, arts organisations and institutions, critics and other related subjects. The collection contains documentary material in all formats including books, catalogues, videos, slides, artists’ papers and ephemera in print and digital format. NIVAL also holds a significant volume of material on photographers and photography in Ireland including the collections of Gerry Farrell and Paddy Jolley.

Join us to hear more about NIVAL's work and the benefits of researching and donating to this all-island institution.
